A slip of the tongue which refers to Canada, which has none of the characteristics of a Latin American or Caribbean country or a clothing store, nor is it economically nor politically unstable, as a "banana republic" can only be explained by the aforementioned preoccupation.

One could understand how someone with that preoccupation who fantasizes about bananas and baguettes, candy canes and candles might somehow experience a lapse and somehow his 'internal editors' would equate Canada with a banana republic.

Helluva Freudian slip, though.
