Sounds like my husband.
Actually, this is perfect for me, though. I wanted somebody who was smart like me, but who was self-taught (not college-educated) like me.
And, like Garp, I wanted to marry an avid reader who would appreciate my writing- but
not a writer, who would compete with me.
My husband's perfect on both counts: he's the quintessential reader, but with no literary aspirations whatsoever. I even tried to
help him write a short story one time- like, "C'mon, let's try to write one together, just for fun"- and he couldn't even get beyond writing the first couple of sentences. His mind, gifted as it is, doesn't work that way.
